Into the Unknown

Into the unknown is a collection of landscapes presented in an ethereal yet familiar palate. Local Artist Jane Couttie Burgess invites us to escape through offering us “a portal to another place". Painted over the course of the pandemic Into the Unknown is the artist’s expression of a desire to consciously focus on what is good in the world during a challenging time. These subtle yet deeply affecting paintings are rendered with an overt sense of compassion for the natural world and offer an opportunity for us to ground ourselves in what has been a chaotic and unsettling time.

Nostalgic in nature for the artist yet undeniably contemporary, Animal Farm presents us with tenderly rendered imagery from the Farm. Drawing on her childhood experiences on a working farm and influenced by George Orwell’s novel, Palmer draws parallels between the way we treat our animals and each other. Seen through the lens of our current experiences of control and segregation, this message seems especially current and bears repeating
