Kate Ford

Contemplation: Explorations in Stillness

By combining paper making and found objects, Kate creates a narrative exploring the moment of arrival into stillness.

The journey getting there is multilayered. The paper in Kate’s work is made from a variety of sources, including handmade cotton rag paper, plant fibres and recycled books and sewing patterns. By combining these elements with sculptural ones, Kate creates a unique and captivating visual narrative. The paper is manipulated and combined with various natural and manmade materials that Ford has found over many years of artist field trips and adventures. The works serve as a physical reminder of the beauty and fragility of nature and our place and history in and with it.

Ford’s works are both visually striking and emotionally poignant, offering viewers an intimate perspective of her explorations in trying to make sense of the world. Whilst not really coming up with any answers, through her works, Kate communicates the importance of taking time to reflect and invites the viewer to pause and enjoy the connection she has found to fleeting moments in time and place where that moment of calm is achieved.
